PRE-COVID ADVENTURES
Since Singapore reopened its borders in April this 12 months, I haven’t zipped in a foreign country. I haven’t even regarded up any airfares.
Firstly, I figured I simply didn’t wish to take care of excessive ticket costs, journey logistics and COVID measures which may change in a single day. However over time, as journey appeared to stabilise, I suspected my lack of want to journey ran deeper than an avoidance of admin.
I even developed a mini-existential disaster, particularly since North Korea was not the one spontaneous and adventurous journey I’d carried out pre-pandemic.
Once I was 23, I booked my first solo journey impulsively. I used to be in Manchester visiting a buddy and determined to take a look at London for 5 days, the place I made a decision to attempt one other factor for the primary time: Couchsurfing.
I stayed alone with a middle-aged man in his home in London’s Zone 5 for a few nights. Not the wisest concept in hindsight. (What did I say about doing issues sparsely?)
At 26, having accrued many go away days, I travelled for a month throughout a number of US states to go to buddies I’d made on-line. I hadn’t met lots of them in individual earlier than, however that didn’t cease me from bunking in with them.
